Weird Wales - Arthur trains by racing uphill against horses ridden by his Mrs
Jamie Arthur is planning to gallop to victory when he bids to upset British super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg next month.
The Welshman is preparing for the challenge by racing against horses being ridden by his model wife, Karen.
Former Commonwealth champion Arthur is always looking for wacky training methods, and believes his latest plan will help cause a major upset in the Premier Suite at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium on Saturday 4th February.
Arthur explained: “Basically I have a couple minutes start and then Karen chases me up the side of a mountain riding a horse.
“It is only a 3 minute run, so it only takes about a minute for her to catch up.
“It is just a bit of fun really (Is Arthur related to Welsh chat show legend Keith Barrett? - Ed.) but comes in useful when we are breaking in horses to ride and for them to understand commands.
“If she is kicking on and I am running the horse seems to follow. It is a good way to train the horse and me as well.
“The good thing about the village where I live, Rhydyfelin is that there are plenty of mountains, hills and fresh air so I can fill my lungs up.”
