Martin Murray responds to Hearn's offer to fight Darren Barker
Martin Murray has revealed that he would love to fight Darren Barker - if Barker's promoter Eddie Hearn is serious.
The St Helens middleweight - who remains unbeaten after an away draw against WBA champion Felix Sturm - spoke exclusively to BoxRec News today.
"I read the news from Eddie Hearn about the offer to myself to fight Darren Barker. This is a fight I'd love to make.
"This offer came after weeks and weeks of my fantastic team, Hatton Promotions, chasing Eddie Hearn and Matchroom to make this fight.
"My team have offered them a lot more money for Darren to box me than they offered me to box him and a date in April. My matchmaker Richard Poxon got a response, more or less saying 'Take it or leave it'.
"I was in the office with Richard and Ricky Hatton when his reply came. This isn't the response of a team that wants a fight to happen.
"They don't want this fight and that's no disrespect to Darren because I respect him but I'm extremely confident that I'll beat him.
"I would love to fight Darren and the British public would love the fight too. But like (Matthew) Macklin v Barker it never happened and I'm concerned this won't happen.
"My hopes are still that Felix Sturm will fight me again but I'm not holding my breath. This would make a fantastic fight for fight fans and it really is down to Matchroom and Darren to make this happen. Let's get it on!"
