Hatman admits 'assisting' with Khan v Peterson scorecard

Mustafa 'The Hatman' Ameen - the mysterious figure at ringside for Amir Khan v Lamont Peterson whose presence has contributed to one of the most bizarre, drawn out and regrettably high profile farces of recent years - has revealed that he was indeed involving himself with the fight scorecards.

Ameen - who denies any wrongdoing - said he was helping under the weather WBA supervisor Michael Welsh.

"I noticed one error and a subsequent error. I assisted him in correcting it without touching anything," he told BBC Sport.

"I happened to look down, I believe at the end of the third round, I looked down and I saw Mr Welsh's score," said Ameen.

"I saw, I believe, it could have been nine, nine and nine - which is 27 all day long. There was an error. It might have been 26 or 28 but he was off by a point or two.

"I happened to look down and I said 'Michael, nine times three is 27'. He said 'oh my God' and corrected himself.

"And he said 'I'm not feeling well this evening, thank you very much'."

Another objection from Team Khan centered around why Ameen was pictured in the ring with Peterson, who won Khan's WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles by way of split decision.

Ameen defended himself saying that he was helping 85-year-old IBF official Paul Artiist with the championship belt, and that he would have acted in the same fashion had Khan won.
