The buture's fright? James DeGale splits from promoter

Olympic gold medallist James DeGale is to split from manager Frank Warren.

DeGale confirmed his split from Warren on Friday in a statement released to Press Association Sport by the boxer's solicitors, Blick & Co.

The European super-middleweight champion from Harlesden, London, said in the short statement: "I think it is time for both of us to move on."

DeGale was due to face Cristian Sanavia in a defence of his title at Wembley in March. However, it was clear that all was not well when the EBU announced that the promoter and boxer had failed to come to an agreement and the match went out again to short notice purse bids.

A statement from Frank Warren Promotions said, "This is not true; James DeGale is in fact under contract until 14 April 2013."
