Woodhouse back on home turf
Former professional footballer Curtis Woodhouse looks to get back on the road to glory as he makes his comeback on David Coldwell’s Shooting Stars show this Sunday at Rotherham’s Magna Centre.
It will be Woodhouse’s first outing since he suffered a controversial points defeat to Peter McDonagh last October in a bout that took place at the York Hall, London in front of the SKY TV cameras.
Promoter Coldwell added Woodhouse to the show when Curtis’ proposed fight for this Friday in Sheffield fell through.
“Things like this happen in boxing and you have to be able to adapt quickly. It made sense to give Curtis the opportunity to jump onto my show and he’s hoping to get a good following of fans to turn up this weekend.
“The Rotherham public have really taken to Curtis over the last couple of years and have created a great atmosphere for his fights at the Magna, hopefully they’ll get behind him again as he always performs better in front of the big crowds and his vocal fans.”
Eleven of Woodhouse’s fourteen wins have come on local shows where he has a consistent fan base and the two defeats on his record have been away from ‘home’ – Belfast and London.
Coldwell continued, “Curtis seems to be one of those fighters that enjoys the loud home support, he gets really revved up knowing there’s a lot of fans that have turned out for his fight. When he fights away, the crowd aren’t as noisy and he just seems a little flat. It will be good for him to make his comeback back at the Magna, he’s had two stoppage victories from both his fights at this venue. He’ll be going for the hat-trick no doubt!”
Woodhouse has been chomping at the bit to get back in action, he’s missed the roar of the crowd and wants to get back into the big fights.
“It’s been a frustrating time and I’m just glad to be back fighting in Rotherham again. It’s a good venue for me, I’ve had some great support here from the Rotherham and Sheffield boxing fans so I’m looking forward to getting out there. I was coming to watch the show and support Nav Mansouri, Jerome Wilson and Nathan McCann, now I’ll be fighting alongside them!
"When the show in Sheffield fell through I had a chat with my manager Dave Coldwell and when he offered me the chance to fight on his show I jumped at it. I just need to get in there and get the win, I just want to knock someone out again!
“I’ve always given the fans excitement, I’m not a Sugar Ray, but the fans know when I come to the ring I let the bombs go. That’s what they want and that’s what they’ll get this Sunday!”
Curtis Woodhouse returns to the Magna as part of Coldwell Boxing’s Shooting Stars show this Sunday, April 10th - first bell time, 3pm.
