Wild withdraws from Anderson fight but Kenny still raring to go
Edinburgh’s Kenny Anderson will be hoping for a swift return to winning ways when he takes to the ring once again on Sunday 10th July at the Municipal Hall in Colne which is getting famous for the great atmosphere it generates.
The fight will be the first for Anderson since his stoppage loss to George Groves last November. The Scot will undoubtedly be on the search for a rematch with the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight boss, especially considering the fact that Anderson looked to be getting the better of his opponent, even putting him down in the third, before the champion fought back bravely to end proceedings three rounds later.
Following Groves’ recent big win over Olympic Gold medallist James Degale, a bout which answered the conundrum of domestic super-middleweight supremacy, the Londoner may be reluctant to re-tread dangerous ground in the shape of Anderson, whose hunger for redemption will ensure that his fists hammer out a favourable result on Saturday night to keep his chances of a lucrative rematch alive and well.
His opponent Carl Wild has just pulled out but Steve Wood from VIP Promotions states that a suitable replacement will be found, even if it means flying someone in.
The Sunday afternoon show will also see the return of Blackburn’s undefeated welterweight Ali Shah who will take on Carl Allen in his comeback fight and then looked to be kept busy in his quest for titles.
The three local boys Shayne Singleton, Luke Blackledge and Stevie Taylor also appear and are in no mood to surrender their unbeaten records in the venue which is becoming their home fortress.
