Top Rank considers Kevin Mitchell for Brandon Rios

Reports from across the Atlantic say that Dagenham's Kevin Mitchell (32-1, 24 KOs) is being considered as the next opponent for former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KOs).

Rios (pictured) lost his title on the scales four weeks ago but still managed to eventually overwhelm Manchester's brave John Murray.

If the match comes off, it would take place on a Top Rank card in Los Angeles on March 3rd, co-headlined by Yuriorkis Gamboa against Rocky Juarez.

The reports say that both sides are willing to take the fight, but Mitchell's legal problems could prove a stumbling block to him being allowed into the States.

In the meantime, rumours persist that Mitchell will in fact take on New York-based Dubliner, Stephen Ormond, in February. Although the Irishman has a perfect 11-0 log, that looks, on paper at least, to be an appalling match.
