Tony Bellew rages at perceived drugs slur from rival McKenzie

Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion and BoxRec poster Tony Bellew visited our forum to express his disgust and outrage at what he believes is a drugs slur from rival Ovill McKenzie. The pair square off in Liverpool on July 16th in a rematch of their first contest which Bellew won by way of a controversial eighth round stoppage. Bellew had been down heavily in rounds one and two.

"We've had a press coneference today (Monday), apparently I'm on drugs according to Mr McKenzie!" posted 'Bomber'.

"It's not right that you bounced back up off the floor and your eyes were clear...you should be checked by the boxing board of control?? This is what I've had to put up with today! He said he it wasn't right that my eyes were clear so I must be on drugs!

"I went on to tell him that I'm the cleanest athlete he'll ever fight and that it was a testament to my heart, conditioning and fighting spirit! He had no answer for that!! I'll ram these disgusting accusations down his throat come July 16th!

"Does he not remember that we're both tested before we fight the small minded clown! He's bringing our sport down with such stupid accusations."

In response to some posts which suggested McKenzie might not have been entirely serious, Bellew replied, "He was serious guys, sad but I'm taking it as a compliment as it's a testament to my conditioning and fitness.. BUT I do think it's wrong to mention drugs in our great sport! I've said for a long time now we should have Olympic drug style testing in professional boxing for years.

"Should be a mandatory thing in title fights! Testing before and after the fight! The thought of someone cheating drives me nuts."
