Spence aims for belt on April Fool's Day

All-action Jamie Spence tops the bill on a night of championship boxing in Northampton. Promoters First Team will have Spence battling for a light-welterweight belt at the Park Inn Hotel on Friday, April 1.

Spence has enjoyed three straight wins in front of his home crowd and matchmaker Errol Johnson is currently finalising details of the 26 year old’s first fight over the 10-round distance.

Prospects Nathan Reeve and Ashley Lane are also on the bill. Reeve, a former England amateur international, is set to target the 8st 3lbs super-flyweight division after starting his professional career with back-to-back wins at bantamweight. Manager PJ Rowson hopes the 21 year-old will box six times this year and be in contention for championship honours in 2012. Lane makes his professional debut at featherweight having served his amateur apprenticeship alongside Reeve at Far Cotton Amateur Club with former tough professional John Daly.

The club also produced possibly the Midlands town’s finest fighter. Alan Bosworth boxed for Far Cotton ABC for eight years before turning professional. He won the English light-welterweight championship, battled Junior Witter for the British belt and went toe to toe with world-rated Shea Neary, Allan Vester and George Scott in an exciting career.

Bosworth plans to be at the show at the Park Inn Hotel where Liam Daly also boxes. Daly, trained by former world middleweight champion Chris Pyatt, made his professional debut at the venue in September with a points win over Jamie Ambler.

Tickets for the show are available for diners and fight fans who just want to watch the boxing. They are available from 07976-283157.
