Solid gets his shot

Rob Norton puts his British cruiserweight championship on the line next month in what will be his first fight since January 2010.

Norton had been set to box at Walsall Town Hall on Saturday, October 8 on the championship bill topped by Black Country belt-holders Lee Glover and Jamie Ball.

But the 39 year-old from Kidderminster will instead defend his belt against Leon ‘Solid’ Williams at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday, October 21.

Williams is the Southern Area champion and his power-packed, all-action style secured back-to-back knock-out wins for the Streatham slugger.

Norton won the vacant title in Burton-on-Trent in October, 2008 with a landslide points win over Mickey Steeds and kept it in a five-knockdown thriller against Dolan that also secured the vacant Commonwealth belt that Norton has since vacated.

Norton and Dolan then drew their rematch in Altrincham in what was the champion's most recent contest.
