Referee reprimanded over Cox v Sai performance

The British Boxing Board of Control has reprimanded referee Mark Green for his handling of the Commonwealth light-middlweight title bout between Obodai Sai and Jamie Cox.

Cox somehow took a narrow and unanimous decision after appearing to have the wrong end of the contest. Worse, Cox was incredibly lucky to hear the final bell rather than be disqualified. He was deducted points in rounds five and twelve for low blows but many went either unnoticed or unpunished.

The statement from the BBBoC reads: "Referee Mr. Mark Green appeared before the Stewards of the Board regarding his performance at the Commonwealth Light Middleweight Championship, Jamie Cox v Obodai Sai, at the Hilton Hotel on Friday, 9th September 2011. Following Mr. Green’s evidence, the Stewards have issued a reprimand."
