Prospect Ghvamichava pitched in against experienced Italian
Having previously showcased his talents at the Wishaw Sports Centre, with a knockout of the experienced Laszlo Komjathi, Cork-based Georgian Levan Ghvamichava will be looking for a similar outcome when he makes his return on October 28th.
Prospect Boxing are pleased to confirm the return of the Georgian, now 5-0, when he takes on the experienced Italian Giuseppe Lauri. Lauri is a former European title contender and former Italian champion and will be known to fans for his loss to Dungiven's Paul McCloskey.
On confirmation of the securing the fight, Ghvamichava's manager Gary Hyde said, “I am delighted to have secured Giuseppe Lauri for Levan and I feel Levan has what it takes to win this fight.
“Levan has over 250 amateur contests fought in the 03, 05 and 07 World Championships and beat two-time world amateur champion Rosniel Iglesias in his last amateur contest so he is ready to fight Lauri even though he is just 5-0.”
Given that this is his fifth fight, it is fair to say this is a big step up for the Georgian. Acknowledging the fact, Hyde reveals his faith in his fighter.
“There is no doubt that this is a very big step up for Levan, but his work in the gym and the way he has fought in his five contests shows me that it's time to pull the trigger. It will be Levan's first eight-round fight and this will be his first major training camp. My prediction is that it will be a thrilling contest and I am very confident that Levan will put on the performance of his life for the Scottish fight fans.
“Levan is very excited about returning to Wishaw where he stopped Lazslo Komjathi. Komjathi went the distance with Amir Khan and Andriy Kotelnik.”
The card sees the comeback of Scottish featherweight champion Kris Hughes. Also in action are the undefeated trio of Paul Allison, Chris Steel and John McCallum while local amateur star Ian Butcher makes his pro début.
