No slip ups from Groves
Commonwealth super-middleweight champion George Groves stopped awkward but limited Daniel Allotey in the fourth round of a make time contest in Huddersfield tonight.
Time, 1:53.
Allotey (now 13-2), came to fight and the Ghanaian's southpaw stance took a little while for Groves to work out - but not too long. 'St George', now only 12-0 lest we forget, realised that the right hand was the shot to damage Allotey and dropped him with a straight shot.
Allotey showed his heart by rising at six but as soon as the action re-commenced, Groves banged in a short right which took the African's legs from him, forcing him to take a knee and the referee rightly waved the fight off.
In the post-fight interviews, Groves repeated his confident assertion that he has the number of mandated opponent James DeGale whilst promoter Adam Booth said the fight between the former amateur rivals was 'inevitable' and hoped to be able to make an announcement soon.
