Naz in bother with the law again

Naseem Hamed - jailed for 15 months in 2006 for his involvement in an horrific car smash which nearly killed two people - is back in trouble with the law for driving related offences.

In today's hearing at Woking Magistrates Court, the former featherweight world champion was fined more than £1,000 after driving without re-taking his test following a lengthy ban. He had been disqualified from driving for four years as part of his 2006 sentence.  This ban ended in March but Hamed was obliged to re-take his test before recommencing driving.

The court heard that he drove his wife's car home last August after receiving a call to say his youngest son was sick. Hamed did not appear in court today but pleaded guilty in his absence to driving a vehicle otherwise in accordance with a driving licence and driving with no insurance.

Hamed was stopped two minutes from his home and was initially handcuffed and arrested by the side of the road after police records wrongly recorded him as being a disqualified driver.

Hamed was fined £1,000 for driving with no insurance and given six penalty points. He was fined £150 for driving without re-taking his test and was ordered to pay £43 costs and an additional surcharge of £15.
