Monster Monster - Eric Hall aims to bring showbiz back to boxing

Eric HallFormer football agent and music industry fixer Eric 'Monster Monster' Hall is turning his hand to boxing, and will be representing former two-weight British champion David Barnes.

Barnes (25-2-1) launched his comeback last month with a six round points shutout over Ghanaian Isaac Quartey on David Coldwell's Rotherham card.

Prior to working in the music industry, Eric Hall made his name as a football agent representing, among others, Dennis Wise and Terry Venables. He’s hoping can deliver a first world title shot for Barnes.

Pint-sized Eric told the Manchester Evening News: “I’m going to shake up boxing like I shook up football. I worked with Paul Gascoigne, Gary Lineker, Terry Venables, Harry Redknapp. I brought showbiz into football and I want to bring more into boxing.”

Barnes reckons Hall is the ideal man for the job. “I’ve never had an agent in my life. But I think that’s what I needed. You need help to get fights."

“After beating James Hare (in 2004) I should have got a world title shot. I beat him in six rounds and showed my talent. But I never got offered a world title shot or a European title shot."

Hall hopes Barnes can be the start of his next success story: “I want a world champion. Hopefully, I can build a stable of future world champions. I’ve still got that magic left."

Before football, Hall worked in the music industry, and claims Freddie Mercury wrote the song ‘Killer Queen’ about him.

When Queen pulled out of a scheduled appearance, Hall was responsible for booking the Sex Pistols for their infamous interview with Bill Grundy back in the seventies.

Hall is certainly a colourful character. When commentating on a pre-season Chelsea game, he famously said: "Gianfranco Zola is a fantastic man. But incredibly ugly."
