McMillan says 'bottler' McIntyre is 'dead man walking'
Gary McMillan has warned Kevin McIntyre that he is a “dead man walking” ahead of their clash at Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Sports Centre on August 27.
The pair have been engaged in verbal sparring since McIntyre pulled out of their scheduled bout in Glasgow last month with McMillan labelling the Paisley man a “bottler”.
However, former British champion McIntyre believes that McMillan poses little threat and isn’t even the number one welterweight in his home city of Edinburgh, never mind the whole of Scotland, after being outpointed by Gary Young for the Scottish title.
McMillan said: “Young got a lucky decision against me and if McIntyre is thinking ahead to a fight with him instead of focussing on his fight with me, then he is a dead man walking.
“He says he is going to do a number on me but he can’t do it. I hope he will have someone to drive him through to Edinburgh from Paisley because after I’ve finished with him he won’t be in any state to drive back home again.
“I am not bothered what he says, he is still a bottler and when he wakes up on the 28th of August he will know what Gary McMillan is all about. It will be me who progresses and looks to be in the mix for a shot at the British title.”
After an absence of nearly four years, former WBO super-featherweight title-holder and Edinburgh native Alex Arthur is delighted to bring professional boxing back to the capital in his debut as a promoter.
Arthur, who will also box on the card, said: “I think this is a potentially dangerous fight for both Gary and Kevin. I travelled with Kevin when we were both in the amateurs and my sparring with Gary in the build-up to my fight with Koba Gogoladze when I won my interim world title was invaluable.
“I think it is a 50-50 fight but whoever is the most determined on the night will win and go forward to bigger and better things. I think the fans will be the real winners because this is possibly the best match-up that can be made between two Scottish boxers.”
