McIntosh goes to Germany for first Euro defence
Norwich's European light-heavyweight champion Danny McIntosh will travel to Neubrandenburg, Germany on May 7th to defend against recent Sauerland signing, Eduard Gutknecht.
Madcap Danny Mac travelled to Paris in January to win the belt against home town favourite Thierry Karl so is no stranger to being the guest of a hostile crowd.
The match will support IBF Middleweight champion Sebastian Sylvester defence against mandatory challenger Daniel Geale.
“I´m thrilled to be fighting for the European title in just my second fight for Team Sauerland,” Gutknecht said from his training camp base in Zinnowitz. “McIntosh is a strong fighter with a big heart. He won his title on the road, which shows that he can perform well under pressure. But I will defeat him and take the title.”
It's a tough ask for the Ingle-trained Norwich man and hopefully the 31-year-old is being suitably rewarded for laying his hard-earned belt on the line away from home.
Gutknecht's only loss came in April last year, on points, in a challenge to WBO super-middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz.
