Matthews and Unsworth to contest vacant English title

After weeks of negotiations, it has been announced that Derry Matthews will contest the vacant English lightweight title against Warrington-born, Sleaford-based brawler Amir 'Unzy' Unsworth. The fight, which will take place at the Liverpool Olympia on Saturday April 2nd and be promoted by Stephen Vaughan, has all the makings of a thriller.

Unsworth, who boasts a record of 12-3-1 (2KO) currently holds the Midlands Area crown and will be looking to break into the domestic big time. Matthews will see this as a step along his road to that coveted British title he so craves. Both fighters come with so much to gain, but Matthews is the one who has much to lose. Defeat here could spell the end for the once vaunted prospect.

The bill will also feature fighters from the Liverpool and Chester areas such as Nick McDonald, Paul Butler, Joe Mcnally, Paul Economides, Paul Davis, Scott Miller, Graham Delehedy and Rocky Fielding. BoxRec News will bring you the most in-depth coverage in boxing as the fight draws nearer.
