Limond joins McAllister in Tommy Gilmour's stable
Willie Limond, the ever popular Glasgow light-welterweight has joined Tommy Gilmour in a switch which has seen him sign a three-year deal with the St Andrew Sporting Club supremo.
Limond has only had a couple of bouts in the last 18 months or so, but the 32 year-old still has hunger and is relatively unscathed from his illustrious career which has seen three defeats on his 36 bout slate, and those to none other than Erik Morales, Amir Khan (with the longish count) and Alex Arthur in his peak years.
Gilmour has his eye on a British title shot for his new signing and there is no doubt that he may be able to swing that particular pendulum. That then opens up the possibility of an all Scottish clash with Lee McAllister, who holds the Commonwealth lightweight belt.
Gilmour says "It was a nice surprise when he knocked on my door. I've always been an admirer of Willie and knew he was and still is, a quality fighter. He is more than capable of getting to the top of the sport again. I'm certain of it."
As Limond is another of boxing's genuine guys who's meaner in the ring than outside it, I hope the two joiners (Limond and McAllister) can get an opportunity to see who can nail the other!
