Kevin Mitchell arrested in drugs bust - reports

Promoter Frank Warren announced in his weekly 'Frankly Speaking' column on April 23rd that "I've managed to get another domestic super fight off the ground. European lightweight champion John Murray will take on former world title challenger Kevin Mitchell in the summer, probably in July. It's a great fight and I'm really excited about it."

What Warren surely couldn't have known was that, according to The Sun newspaper, more than a week earlier Mitchell had been arrested following an early morning raid on his family home.

According to the tabloid newspaper, "Mitchell and his mum have been nicked on suspicion of possessing cocaine and running a cannabis farm. Mitchell, 26, was held during an 8am raid on his family home following a tip-off...Cops said a woman aged 51 and a man, 26, had been bailed until June 10."

The arrest is reported to have been made on April 15th.

This proposed fight has already been shelved once over 'politics' or money, depending on who one believes and it's hard to see how it can go ahead as scheduled now with Mitchell having such a serious matter hanging over his head.

John Murray recently moved to Warren.  Having given up his European title in order to fight Mitchell (the EBU don't allow boxers coming off a defeat to challenge for their title and Mitchell hasn't boxed since losing to Michael Katsidis), this appears to be really bad news for the unlucky Mancunian.
