'Kell Brook is not in my league' says Yassine El Maachi

By Imran Azam: Kell Brook is a wanted man. Yassine El Maachi has set his sights on the Sheffield boxer.

Speaking to the Muslim News El Maachi, who won the recent instalment of the Prizefighter, says leading domestic fighters are avoiding him.

He said: “Kell Brook is not in my league. He knows I am a better boxer than him. He simply does not want to be in the same ring as me. And the same goes for Matthew Hatton and Lee Purdy. They wont get anywhere near me.”

After winning the eight man knock-out tournament the Rabat-born boxer draped himself in the country of his birth. The Moroccan consulate is due to organise a reception in his honour. His victory in the Prizefighter saw him beat former world champion Junior Witter in the final.

Meanwhile Adnan Amar is scheduled for a six round contest on the under card of Dereck Chisora’s British heavyweight title against Tyson Fury. He has suffered only one defeat in 24 contests and says he wants to operate at title level.

The Nottingham boxer who currently holds the English welterweight championship said: “I need to shake off some ring rust but by the end of the year I will be ready for the British or Commonwealth title. I will be taking a break during Ramadan but hope to have another fight around October. After that I will be ready to fight the best in the country. I am confident in my ability and I know I can fight at a higher level.”
