Jupp and Khan both lose their 0’s - in the same fight!

George Jupp (9st 2½lb) lost his unbeaten record in Dagenham last night in a controversial 38-39 loss to Raffi Khan of Harrow. In the process Khan also his 0 from the win column, scoring his first victory!

Khan did start the fight quickly throwing lots of shots, not all landed cleanly and he showed good hand speed in the process. Then Jupp started to use his superior boxing skills and looked like he was starting to take over the fight through rounds one and two landing nice clean single shots on the back foot. Once again Khan started the fast in the third stanza but wasn’t really landing anything substantial. Jupp landed a classy straight right which snapped back the head of Khan. Then the tide changed toward the end of round three.

Khan got a second wind in the fourth round and which forced Jupp on the defensive throughout most of the round. At the final bell the crowd seemed surprised when Khan’s hand was lifted by referee Ken Curtis. Jupp drops to (3-1) and Khan improves to (1-1).

Wickford’s Danny Brown (11st 5lbs) stayed unbeaten with a 39-37 win over Brighton’s Iain Jackson in a real tear up. Both fighters gave it their all and Brown prevailed through better work rate and landing the better quality shots, notably a big right hand which seemed to have Jackson in trouble during the third round. Credit to both fighters who kept the crowd entertained for three minutes of each round showing true grit and determination. Brown improves to (2-0) and Jackson drops to (0-2) but surely isn’t far away from his first win.

Michael Devine’s comeback fight after a KO loss to Mark Alexander last year was a successful one scoring a 39-37 over Sid Razak (10st). This was a good workout for Devine (4-1) as Razak certainly came to fight. Devine (9st 9lbs) showed his superior boxing skills throwing nice combinations and quality body shots throughout. Razak (6-61) did have a good fourth round but it wasn’t enough to put Devine’s win in jeopardy.

Brentwood’s Kris Agyei-Dua won his second pro fight comfortably against Lois Byrne (11st 9lbs). Kris (11st 8lbs) controlled the first round with virtually nothing coming back at him. Kris was landing looping right hands at will causing some concern to Byrnes corner. Byrne (2-13) did get wise to this and came out in the second with his left held high giving him some defence to Agyei-Dua’s signature punch. The fight ended with both guys toe to toe in the middle of the ring throwing bombs at each other. Kris now (2-0) came out on top 40-36 in an entertaining bout.
