Hennessy Sports confirms venue for Fury v Chisora
Hennessy Sports has announced that Wembley Arena will be the venue for the eagerly awaited domestic super-fight between Tyson Fury and current champion Dereck Chisora for the British heavyweight championship on Saturday 23rd July.
Mick Hennessy won the original bids for this contest but the Board rejected his proposed venue of Marbella, Spain. Hennessy then won a second round of bids, despite offering a much lower figure than originally - so the initial refusal might actually have worked in his favour.
Hennessy has had a bad 2011, with his stars John Murray, Darren Barker and Carl Froch all leaving him. Fury is currently his last (British) marquee name.
It will be interesting to see who, if anyone, broadcasts this match. Terrestrial television seems unobtainable for promoters at the moment and Hennessy appears to be persona non grata with Sky Sports. Favourites must be Primetime TV, who made a splash picking up Amir Khan v Paul McCloskey and have also dealt with Hennessy Sports before when showing three of Carl Froch's world title fights.
Tyson Fury said “Chisora’s talked the talk and now he needs to walk the walk. I’m good to go, that’s my game walking the walk, so let’s see if he is man enough to get in the ring with a dangerous, young, live opponent for the first time in his career.”
