Fury v Firtha undercard notes

There was, as usual, a decent atmosphere in Belfast's Kings Hall for last night's Tyson Fury v Nicolai Firtha bill.

Here are the results with a few brief observations.

Junior Witter WPT6 Arvydas Triznd

Sheffield's former WBC light-welterweight champion Junion Witter fights on and gets a win but it's obvious that his best days have been and gone. Triznd was game enough and heard the final bell.

Willie Casey WTKO8 Daniel Kodjo Sassou

'Big Bang' Casey got back to winning ways after his first round destruction by classy Guillermo Rigondeaux back in March. He looked okay but certainly didn't have everything his own way as Sassou hit him back a good few times. The stoppage was perhaps a little premature.

Kid Galahad WTKO1 Paul Griffin

21 year-old Ingle charge Kid Galahad comfortably moved to 9-0 with a first round stoppage of Paul Griffin who is past his best. The confident young man now feels he's ready for a title tilt of some kind around super-bantamweight.

Joe Hillerby WPTS4 Tommy Tolan 39-38

Hillerby edged a contest that displayed more effort than quality.

Dee Walsh WPTS4 Gerard Healy 39-37

Walsh looks like a quality operator. He might have been helped in this by Healy's rather one dimensional approach but he (Healy) was as brave as ever.

Phill Fury WPTS6 Richard Troupe 58-56

Troupe gave it a good go but Fury had too much for him, despite being a bit one-paced and holding his hands low.

Michael McLaughlin WTKO4 Mark Betts

Betts walked smack bang into a shot and was counted out. Despite the win, with which he can obviously be pleased, McLaughlin still has a lot of improvements to make.

Levan Ghvamichava WTKO1 Joe Rea

Belfast-based Georgian Ghvamichava is a very good fighter, managed by Gary Hyde. Trouble is, perhaps the word is out because he's finding it difficult to get any fights. Rea withdrew citing a damaged left shoulder after round one but he took a beating in the opener. Levan is now 4-0, three by stoppage.
