Extra incentives for boxers as York Hall becomes a War Zone this Saturday

Goodwin Promotions War Zone, 8th October 2011Fireworks are expected this Saturday night at the York Hall when Goodwin Promotions turns the spiritual home of boxing into a 'War Zone'. Topping the bill, Toks 'The Viper' Owoh (19-5) continues his comeback against former Prizefighter contestant John Anthony (7-18-1) at cruiserweight over six threes.

All boxers on the 12 fight card will be aware of an extra incentive. Promoter Steve Goodwin and Blackpool fighter Jeff Thomas got their heads together to come up with interesting concept in order to bring more excitement to the both the audience and the boxers.

Special £200 cash prizes are on offer for 'Fight of the Night', 'Best KO/TKO', and 'Best Away Boxer'. These will be judged by BoxRec, with the prizes dished out in the ring at the end of the night.

The cruiserweight division is starting to warm up a little, with Rob Norton finally set to defend his British title later in the month against Leon 'Solid' Williams, and Romford prospect Tony Conquest eyeing the winner after adding to his unblemished record against Hastings Rasani last week.

Toks, 39, last ticked over on a Steve Goodwin bill at the York Hall back in March with a points win over Lithuanian Remigijus Ziausys. Should he impress, the 39 year old from Chalk Farm could put himself in the mix for a domestic belt.

Things get slightly heavier with Chelsea-based Iraqi Ali Adams (11-3), Goodwin's latest signing, in action over six threes against Gabor Farkas (6-18-5). Adams, 31, has been sparring with big names Dereck Chisora and John McDermott over the summer, and will be looking to make himself part the domestic heavyweight picture.

Tony Sims' trained southpaw middleweight John 'The Gorilla' Ryder (5-0) hopes to progress his 'O' against Wickford’s Danny Brown (2-1). Making his debut at Cruiserweight, Hoddeston's Butch Goldhawk is in against Lithuanian Igoris Borucha (5-14-1).

The return of Ryan Barrett (23-9-2) is of interest. ‘Mr Attitude’ has stepped up to welterweight after admitting he was struggling to make the lightweight 135lbs limit, and takes on Sergejs Volodins (7-3) from Riga. Latvia.

Eltham light middleweight William Cayzer (1-0), who dispatched journeyman Matt Seawright in the first round on his debut, will be looking to produce more of the same against Guilford's Louis Byrne (2-22).

Michael 'The Real Chunky' Devine (5-1) from Luton steps up to six rounds for the first time as he takes on Lithuanian Vladimiras Balaklijec (3-3). Coming off his first pro win against the aforementioned Danny Brown, middleweight Diego Burton (1-0-1) goes in with Duncan Cottier (2-67).

There are also debuts for Sussex Lightweight Billy Lavelle, and Philip Bowes from Leytonstone, London, who finds himself in against seasoned journeyman Billy Smith (12-101-2).

Tickets are priced unreserved £35, ringside £60. Doors open at 4.15.
