Exclusive - Matthew Hatton lined up for shot at WBA interim title

BoxRec News understands that Matthew Hatton, fresh from his unsuccessful challenge for Saul Alvarez's WBC light-middleweight belt is being lined up for another shot at a major title.

There are three major differences this time though - it's with the WBA, it's at welterweight and it's for one of those interim versions. The current holder is Souleymane M'Baye.

Hatton Promotions have been working on this match for some time and were in discussions about it before the boxer's unexpected opportunity to fight Alvarez at 154lbs came about. Obviously that gift horse couldn't be looked in the mouth but now that's out of the way (Hatton lost a wide points decision), M'Baye and his interim belt have come back into focus. The promoter is confident that a deal will be done.

In the latest WBA rankings, Hatton is number 13 at welterweight.
