Eubank Jr. signs with Hennessy
Chris Eubank Jr. has signed a 'long term' deal with Hennessy Sports, and will make his professional debut on the Tyson Fury v Neven Pajkic undercard this Saturday at EventCity in Manchester.
Mick Hennessy said: “We are delighted to have signed such a major talent. There was a lot of competition for his signature, not only from other promoters but other broadcasters as well. We believe that Chris Eubank Jnr has the potential to not only become an elite world champion but also transcend boxing and become a major world star on route to the titles.”
Eubank Jr has been recently sparring with British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves, and is mentored by his legendary father, who was involved in some of the UK's greatest fights in recent times.
Of his new signing, Hennessey remarked: “I honestly already believe he is the best middleweight in this country even without (having) a pro fight."
Not only is this an extremely bold statement from Hennessey, but it will probably be a few years time before we find out whether it holds any water. There's plenty of serious prospects around at middleweight, but don't expect Eubank Jr to be getting in the ring with them any time soon.
It is doubtful whether Eubank Jr's fight will be televised. Channel 5 haven't shown too much undercard on their first two boxing shows, opting instead to build on their Tyson Fury investment by showing back story and footage of him training.
Also featured on Saturday night's Manchester bill is a ten rounder between James Flinn and Adil Anwar for the English welterweight title, and the return of former British light welterweight champion 'Lightening' Lenny Daws, who takes on Scotland's Stuart Green over six threes.
