David Haye wins comeback contest

Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye has been lying very low since his meek losing effort against Wladimir Klitschko in July. So it was a surprise to see him pop up with a comeback victory over another world champion on national television last night.

'The Hayemaker' beat WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan in a 'shadow boxing' contest as part of ITV's latest vehicle for Ant and Dec, a million pound prize game show called 'Red and Black'.

The boxers had to punch their way through a series of paper obstacles as quickly as possible. Given Khan's great experience of this in his early pro career, I strongly fancied the Bolton man to win.

However, Haye - who expended more effort last night than he did against Audley Harrison, seriously - stormed to victory.

Khan then took off his right boot and sock, climbed onto Ant's shoulders and got the Geordie slaphead to parade him round whilst pointing at his little toe, shouting to general bemusement, "I didn't want to let Ant and Dec down so I went through with it".

OK, he didn't. But it would have been funny, no?
