Crolla devastated by Morales fight cancellation
British lightweight champion Anthony Crolla has missed out on what was to be the opportunity of a lifetime - a Las Vegas fight next month against Mexican legend Erik 'El Terrible' Morales.
The fight was scheduled to be the chief undercard support for Floyd Mayweather's comeback bout against Victor Ortiz but now Morales will fight Jorge Rodrigo Barrios for the vacant WBC light-welterweight title. (The governing body stripped champ Timothy Bradley in typically ludicrous fashion recently.)
As is often the case in situations like this, whilst the boxer suffers, his fans are also collateral damage.
“I was devastated when I found out it was off, but then I immediately thought about all the people who had booked flights to see me," Crolla told the Manchester Evening News.
“There were a few hundred going out, who have spent their hard-earned money to fly out and won’t be able to get refunds.
“I’m still hoping to be on the undercard, so they should still get to see me. It’s the best case scenario in the circumstances.”
