Ancliff stops Hastie to take Scottish featherweight title

James Ancliff of Fettercairn near Aberdeen won the vacant Scottish featherweight title to add to his super featherweight one when he forced Jason Hastie into a retirement at the end of the fifth round of their scheduled ten rounder. Hastie started brightly enough and won the opening couple of rounds, but the heavier punches to the body from Ancliff told their own tale. The punishing body work from the Aberdonian just frankly knocked the stuffing out of the Edinburgh man.

The Alex Morrison promoted dinner show at the Thistle Hotel had another retirement when veteran Daniel Thorpe of Sheffield had to retire at the end of round two of his scheduled six rounder against Alexander White. It isn't often that "Danny Boy" has to do that, so White's debut will be all the sweeter.

Gareth Stemp also came in at short notice when Chuck Jones of Cardiff couldn't make it, in what was to be Glasgow southpaw Jon Slowey's debut. However this act of gallantry was not reciprocated by the Glaswegian who duly took the points decision by 60-55.
