Alvarez fined for coming in over agreed weight; fight could still be called off

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has weighed in over the agreed 150lbs catchweight limit for tonight's WBC light-middleweight title bout in Anaheim, California. His first visit to the scales saw him weigh in 1.8lbs over and a second visit 90 minutes later saw him shed a paltry 4oz.

Hatton weighed in at 149.6lbs (though why on earth the Yanks insist on mixing imperial and metric measures, I have no idea).

According to buzzing website Boxing Scene, Alvarez will now forfeit 20% of his $350,000 purse with $35k going to Hatton and $35k to the California State Athletic Commission.

The Hattons, who had threatened to pull the plug on the match if Alvarez pulled this exact stroke, have reportedly said the match is off if Alvarez can't make the check weight of 160lbs at 3pm PT.
