Williams, Ojuederie, Theophane and the return of Toks Owoh
Miranda Carter’s Left Jab Promotions is at York Hall for the tenth time on 10th October (10.10.10) and the main event will be a ten-round contest.
The show headlines with the Southern Area cruiserweight title fight where Streatham’s Leon Williams meets Walthamstow’s JJ Ojuederie. Leon is untested beyond six rounds, but his devastating knockout of Tyrone Wright at York Hall in March earned him a place in Prizefighter, where he lost a split decision to the eventual winner Jon Lewis Dickinson.
Boxing News wrote “the South Londoner has a thrilling punch. He looks dangerous every time he slams his fists home”. Known as ‘Solid’, Leon is managed by Spencer Oliver and trained by Don Charles in Finchley.
At 31, JJ Ojuederie is by far the more experienced at professional level having had his first pro fight back in 2000. He holds the Southern Area light-heavyweight title as well as the International Masters cruiserweight belt. Trained by CJ Hussein, JJ has shown he can take a punch, notably in his successful Southern title defence against Joey Vegas, and therefore the scene is set for an intriguing contest.
The Sunday afternoon show features a rare London appearance by welterweight Ashley Theophane. Ashley’s is fresh from a win over Delvin Rodriguez in the USA, which has put him in line for an IBF world title shot.
Also on the bill are two fighters from the Jim Evans’ stable, Adam Battle and Gary Boulden; Epsom super-middleweight Jimmy Ward (2-0); undefeated Ryan Toms (Northolt, 5-0) in a rematch with Darryl Setterfield; and the return of Toks Owoh, now at cruiserweight, in his first fight since 2005.
