Wanted - someone to beat El Maachi. Reward - £15k.
It has been well publicised lately that light-middleweight maverick Yassine El Maachi cannot get the fights he wants and needs to progress his career. Things may be about to change for the 30-year-old London-based Moroccan.
El Maachi (11-4 but unbeaten in seven) has signed with promoter Steve Goodwin who is making a very tempting offer for potential opponents - a £15,000 bounty on Yassine’s head. Any challenger that gets in the ring and beats El Maachi will pick up a 15k pay day.
Goodwin Promotions are in their maiden year and say they are committed to providing quality shows. Yassine will be on their show at York Hall on 24th April and needs someone to share the ring with him. Goodwin has made it clear that his offer is not solely for the York Hall bill - he has other dates for 2010 which need filling.
Last time out against Alex Spitko, El Maachi caught the eye of the ITV production team. Former WBA featherweight champion Barry McGuigan said, “Yassine is a very talented guy, too good. I really like him, he has great biomechanics, he slips and moves. He’s very hard to match.”
Hopefully this offer will attract some publicity and give El Maachi’s career the kick start it needs.
