UK fight fans get a fix this weekend
In Britain it's close season for pro boxing at the minute. Fight addicts can get a worthy fix on UK television this weekend by checking out a division rival of our own David Haye - Polish 'character' Tomasz Adamek.
The former WBC light heavyweight and IBF cruiserweight champion (47-1) goes head to head with Lennox Lewis victim Michael Grant (46-3) on August 21st – broadcast exclusively in the UK on Primetime (Sky Channel 480).
Adamek is entering this fight defending his current IBF and NABO heavyweight titles. Since defeating legendary Enzo Maccarinelli opponent Bobby Gunn in July last year, Adamek beat fellow Polish nutbag Andrew Golota, Jason Estrada and Chris Arreola. The New Jersey based ticket seller is gearing up for a tilt at one of the major belts.
6'7" Grant is stepping into the ring after being out of the spotlight for the past couple of years. After a successful start to his career, he was smashed to bits in two rounds by Big Len (though that was a decade ago), fell awkwardly and was stopped after the first punch of the fight against Jameel McCline before going on a seven-fight winning streak, halted in 2003 by another false dawn in Dominick Guinn. he
Grant has been plagued by injury and he recently defeated Kevin Burnett back in May in his first fight since 2008.
The man with the uninspiring nickname 'Big' feels he is now ready to be put back on the world stage to prove to boxing fans that he is a heavyweight force to be reckoned with by taking on Tomasz Adamek.
Taking place at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey the fight is part of the established and acclaimed ‘Brick City Boxing Series’.
