TV update - Froch, Limond, Frampton
Well, there's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that, after BoxRec News broke the story that Hennessy Sports had secured UK televison coverage for Friday night's bill featuring John O'Donnell and Tyson Fury, more bouts are going to be available for the armchair fan.
The bad news is, even if you've got the fullest of full monty TV packages, you're going to have to shell out a few dollars more to feed your addiction.
Willie Limond's unlikely Mexican mission to take on over-the-hill all time great Erik Morales on Saturday will be showcased by Premier Sports - the subscription channel currently only available on the Sky platform. For some insane reason I don't even want to think about, Morales v Limond is slated for the 'vacant WBC Continental Americas light-welterweight title'. Aye, looking at Limond I always thought he was some kind of Carib-Latino throwback.
Regardless, it is Premier Sports who have picked this up, along with Hennessy's Friday bill - and they're also showing the young man some in the trade believe is the best young British prospect of the lot - Ulsterman Carl Frampton (6-0) who heads a bill in Belfast on September 18th against experienced Ukrainian Yuriy Voronin.
One of the men behind Premier Sports is thought to be Irish businessman Michael O'Rourke who is a part owner of Setanta Ireland and the channel appears to be trying, as regards boxing anyway, to fill the void left by the demise of Setanta Sports GB which went under in June 2009.
The channel is worth supporting though whether fans will be able or willing to draw on their financial well yet again is another matter.
BoxRec News can confirm that Arthur Abraham v Carl Froch from Monaco on October 2nd will be shown in the UK live on Primetime TV. Primetime - who have, in the past, offered a choice of a web or TV feed - have showcased quite a lot of boxing in the last year or so and in the absence of enough interest from more established broadcasters have created a niche for themselves, especially with coverage of the 'Super Six'.
