Troxy bill: Quick fire round!

The Troxy nightclub is a finely decorated venue but it’s not atmosphere friendly in set up.

Saturday’s host for Sam Webb’s successful light-middleweight defence lacked the noise and intimacy of another East London spot, The York Hall.

Admittedly having many press and ringside seats empty is not the recipe for a tasty fill, but neither is having the balcony fans and outer ringside out of sight.

Despite being just a few feet away or above it sounded as though we were miles apart.

At least that helped to keep the temperature down.

The only regular York Hall ‘feel’ I didn’t miss was the heat!

Spare a thought for local lad Eric Ochieng who was looking forward to his sixth professional fight.  I was looking forward to it too.

Then came on the night news that his fight was off. But his trainer Brian Lawrence, quickly turned reporter to reveal a more than acceptable reason.

The Hackney middleweight’s opponent Tony Randell had to pull out at late notice after his wife recently gave birth.

The pugilist needed to be the protector tending to sickness in the family.

BoxRec News best wishes to him and the family.

But keen Ochieng wasn’t in the mood to miss out totally.

The 23 year-old was on hand to watch his friends Sam Webb and Damien Campbell in action.

Listening in on the security briefing was interesting to say the least...

As the heavy set men assembled for final instructions the leader’s focus was their TV image.

“This is our first live event on SKY, and hopefully not our last.

“Hands in front on your waist, or behind your back, no slouching, or chewing gum.” For those not wanting to comply there was an alternative option given.

“Go home.”

Of course they want to appear professional and create the right impression for TV, but shouldn’t their focus be on how they look after people rather than how they look in front of a camera?

The things us humans do!
