Top amateur Lee Glover can't wait for pro bow
Lee Glover has already won his toughest fight – before he’s even thrown a punch in the professional ring.
For the past year, the Black Country featherweight has been battling boxing bosses after they blocked his ambitions because of a brain scan.
Glover, rated among the country’s top 10 amateurs, and promoters First Team have had the support of top Harley Street doctors and finally, ‘The Tipton Slasher’ has been given the green light to punch for pay – and makes his professional debut in front of a worldwide audience.
Fans around the globe tuned in to www.hatton.tv for last month’s ‘Crunch Time At Lunch Time’ show and their cameras will be back at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Sunday, June 6 to capture all the drama on a bill topped by three title fights.
First Team have the biggest boxing stable in the UK – and Glover has the amateur pedigree to follow the likes of British and Commonwealth cruiserweight champion Rob Norton to the top.
Glover twice reached the last four of the ABA championships – and the punching plasterer’s amateur record shows wins over current Midlands Area featherweight champion Del Rogers and Troy James and Martin Ward, who have both put together unbeaten records in the paid ranks.
PJ Rowson of First Team said: “Lee is a terrific talent and it could have gone to waste. We’re very pleased the board have given him the all clear and thank them for their assistance. We’re sure he has a very bright future in front of him.”
Lee comes from a famous fighting town.
Tipton in the Black Country is the home town of legendary bare-knuckle fighter William Perry and the amateur club Glover represented was named after the legendary ‘Tipton Slasher.’
Perry was twice crowned the heavyweight champion of England during the 1850s and there is a statue in the town centre commemorating his achievements.
