Taxi for St Andrews Sporting Club!
The St Andrew’s Sporting Club has signed a ground-breaking sponsorship deal with Glasgow Taxis.
Widely regarded as the home of Scottish boxing, the St Andrew’s has promoted 302 boxing shows since it was established in 1973.
The new deal will see the Glasgow Taxis logo emblazoned on corner pads and a specially designed canvas covering a ring which has featured Scottish boxing legends such as Ken Buchanan, Jim Watt, Pat Clinton, Paul Weir and Scott Harrison.
Club owner Tommy Gilmour said: “This sponsorship deal brings together two of Glasgow’s most established and well-known brands. I’m sure it will be a hugely beneficial partnership.”
A key date on the Glasgow Taxis’ calendar is the annual outing for sick children. Plans are already under way for this year’s 64th event and the St Andrew’s – which also has a proud history of supporting charities, having raised more than £500,000 for worthy causes during its lifetime – will support this with a fundraising boxing event.
David Mackie, chairman of Glasgow Taxis, said: “Glasgow Taxis is the largest black taxi operator in the UK outwith London, with 1,000 taxis bearing our logo. We are delighted to have signed this deal and I have no doubt it will help raise the profile of both brands even further.”
The new sponsorship will be unveiled on Monday, September 13 at the Club’s 303rd show. Top of the bill features Milngavie super-featherweight prospect Richard Barclay challenging Aberdeen’s James Ancliff for the vacant Scottish super-featherweight title.
