Ricky Burns' proposed WBO tilt falls through

Scotland's Commonwealth super-featherweight champion Ricky Burns faces the massive disappointment of seeing his world title challenge fall by the wayside.

The Coatbridge boxer, promoted by Frank Warren, was supposedly going to fight WBO champion Roman 'Rocky' Martinez for his title, mooted to be on April 24th.

In March, Boxingscene.com quoted Martinez's view that Burns' promoters "offered very little money...they made us an offer and we did not agree" though the actual figure offered was not disclosed.

According to reports coming from Latin America, Puerto Rican Martinez will now defend in his homeland against Nicaraguan Gonzalo Munguia on May 29th.

At the time of writing, no explanation has been forthcoming on Warren's website.

A Scottish newspaper reports that Burns will now box a ten rounder on the undercard of Kevin Mitchell's match against Aussie Michael Katsidis - not confirmed on the aforementioned website.
