Ricky Burns looks to fill the "Braehead" and emulate Scott Harrison

Coatbridge's likeable world champion Ricky Burns will make the first defence of his WBO world super-featherweight title against Colombian Andreas Evensen at Glasgow's Braehead Arena on December 4. The gutsy Burns captured the WBO crown in September, climbing off the floor in the opener to outpoint the previously unbeaten Roman Martinez in a thriller.

The challenger, 24, is based in Norway and has a 13-1 record with five knockouts. He has won and retained the WBO Inter-Continental featherweight title (whatever that is when it is at home).

Burns has said: "Obviously I can't wait. I like to be busy and it's all systems go until December. I still don't feel any different as the champion."

"It's not sunk in yet but I am going to train like a challenger for this fight."

"I will have a look at my opponent on DVDs, and then we will come up with a game-plan."

Things get back to normal quickly as you'd expect in Coatbridge, and I wouldn't hold out much hope for Ricky spending too much time in front of a screen, this opponent won't have been the subject of any in depth analysis unless it has been his own management doing the filming.

As ever though, Burns will be prepared and should prevail, and Boxrec will of course, cover the event.
