Quigg facing more Argy bargy
Scott Quigg has been handed a change of opponent ahead of his vacant WBA international super-bantamweight title clash at the Castle Leisure Centre in Bury on 25 September. The local ticket-seller will now take on Argentina’s Santiago Allione over 12 rounds after fellow countryman Nelson Daniel Monte’s withdrawal.
The 26-year-old Allione sports an unremarkable 16-6-1 record but has won his last three fights back in his native homeland. Allione has also mixed in better company than Monte but has usually been found wanting. Diego Oscar Silva, who went on to challenge Fernando Montiel for the interim WBO bantamweight crown, knocked out Allione in three rounds whilst the current interim WBA super-featherweight king Jorge Solis stopped Allione in four.
Emerging prospect Quigg, 19-0 (13), recorded a ninth round stoppage over Gavin Reid in their eliminator for the British super-bantamweight title in July and looks set for a bright future.
