Quigg to challenge for WBA International crown

Local ticket-seller Scott Quigg will fight Argentina’s Nelson Daniel Monte over 12 rounds at the Castle Leisure Centre in Bury on 25 September. The vacant WBA International super-bantamweight championship (a stepping stone belt) will be on the line.

Emerging prospect Quigg, 19-0 (13), recorded the finest win of his career with a ninth round stoppage over Gavin Reid in their eliminator for the British super-bantamweight title in July and looks set for big things in the next 12 months. It would be a shock if the emerging Bury prospect was derailed by Monte.

The 33-year-old Argentinean has a modest 14 wins from his 23 contests with six defeats and three draws. Monte has been stopped four times, including a first round KO at the hands of Caril Herrea when challenging for the WBC Latino super-flyweight crown in May 2007.

Ominously for the South American, Quigg has stopped his last seven opponents and 10 of the Bury man’s 13 inside-the-distance wins have arrived inside three rounds.
