Paul Smith set to defend against Brian Magee

The British Boxing Board of Control has asked for purse bids relating to Liverpool's Paul Smith defending his British super-middleweight title against Belfast's European champion Brian Magee.

Bids are due by May 12th with the match to take place by the end of July.

Smith (right), 27 - a regular on the BoxRec British forum - has taken a lot of flak in and out of the ring as regards his last two British title fights, both hard earned points victories over city rivals Tony Quigley and Tony Dodson respectively.

At 34 and with 37 fights behind him, Magee is a veteran still capable of putting in great displays, as shown when he travelled to Mads Larsen's Danish backyard and stopped the home favourite in seven rounds.  The likeable Ulsterman has been in with the likes of Carl Froch and Robin Reid so 'Smigga' should hold no fears for him.

A great match up between two exemplary pros.
