Murray’s Euro wait goes on, and on, and on…..

John Murray’s long drawn out saga to challenge for the vacant European lightweight title has been hit by yet another delay. Purse bids to stage Murray’s rematch with Lee McAllister, due to be opened at the EBU’s offices in Rome today, have now been extended until Monday 26th April.

Murray was originally due to challenge Anthony Mezaache for the European crown. However, when Mezaache relinquished his championship Murray was then paired with Andrei Kudriavtsev, only for the Ukrainian to withdraw from the purse bids at the eleventh hour.

The EBU has since matched Murray against former foe Lee McAllister who he stopped in defence of his British title in January 2009. The Scot, who reigns as Commonwealth champion, is currently recovering from an elbow injury which is expected to sideline him until summer.

The unbeaten Murray (28-0) has been out of the ring since October and one has to feel for the Manchester man as his promising career continues to stagnate.
