Morrison goes shopping in Ireland for a title

Barry Morrison the former British title holder has been given an opportunity to re-ignite his career after illness when he  fights Paul McCloskey (left) in Letterkenny, County Donegal on the "Hunky Dory" fight night on the 2nd October.

The European light-welterweight championship belt is at stake for the Motherwell boxer as the stylish southpaw Paul McCloskey makes his second defence of the prestigious belt.

Unbeaten McCloskey has moved steadily up the world rankings and is now ranked No 4 by the WBC, this in turn is helping cement the building up of his own career towards bouts with the elite fighters in the division such as Amir Khan and the American hotshot, Tim Bradley.

McCloskey says, "I know all about Morrison, we came up though the amateurs together and he was generally at the same international tournaments as me so I'm very familiar with him. He's a good fighter, he's strong, very tough and is solid in pretty much everything he does but obviously I believe that I have the tools to do a job on him.”

Morrison's manager Tommy Gilmour though, has warned McCloskey that his charge is determined to bring the European title back to Scotland and he is anticipating a thriller. “This is a wonderful opportunity for Barry and it's come completely out of the blue,” revealed Gilmour. “Barry realises that this is probably a now or never fight as realistically it will be his last chance to prove himself at European level."
