McGuire aims higher in a title quest

Steve McGuire Jnr of Glenrothes has stayed up at light-heavyweight for his next bout against ever durable Jamie Ambler of Aberystwyth in Wales. The former super-middleweight title challenger has lost only once in his career, and that to Brian Magee in his British title bout. The task of making the weight has been a drain which he’ll be better off without, and indeed he looked more comfortable at light-heavy when he beat Hastings Rasani with a points shut-out in Glasgow in January of this year.
Since Nathan Cleverly as holder of both the British and European belts, will have world title ambitions of his own, then McGuire will be looking to enhance his own title aspirations for the British light-heavyweight belt as the Welshman inevitably pursues his own agenda on the world stage.
Steve McGuire Snr, his father, trainer and now a burgeoning promoter in the kingdom of Fife will complete a notable first in Scotland, when he promotes a show in which his son is headlining! The Gilvenbank Hotel in Glenrothes on the 4th June means neither of them will be travel sick since they live only a mile or so away.
Arran McKelvie of Dundee will likewise have a short distance to travel across the River Tay when he makes his professional debut at super-featherweight against Richard Barclay of Bearsden. The three bout show will be completed with a Glasgow and Edinburgh match up where there's never any love lost, with Ryan McNicol from the west and David Cowan from the east, both super-bantamweights.
