Maloney in Tyson Fury!
Tyson Fury failed to show for a London press conference yesterday promoting his rematch with John McDermott which is scheduled to take place on June 25th at Brentwood Leisure Centre...but the big man couldn’t escape a severe telling off from fight promoter Frank Maloney.
The press release stated that Tyson’s trainer Brian Hughes felt travelling from Manchester and taking a day out from training would disrupt his schedule too much (Yes, he's such a fine-tuned athlete is Fury - Ed.).
Maloney said he felt that Tyson had a duty to attend and help promote ‘a fight that the public want’ considering the money he’s getting and put much of this down to Fury’s promoter Mick Hennessy.
“He should have got his big fat a*** down here as this show is being put on for him, he’s not getting as much money as Mick Hennessy would have paid but Mick is not delivering the fight, you know anyone can put in fictitious bids and win bids but not deliver fights.
“I’m glad to say we are delivering the fight for a little less money but still a lot of money for an English title and a final eliminator for the British title.”
Maloney also had another shot at Hennessy saying that his stable are ‘the forgotten fighters of British boxing with Mick suffering from paranoia because he likes to control everything and the reason why no one outside of the trade has heard of Tyson Fury is because Mick’s fighters don’t turn up for press conferences or help to promote fights.’
In their first fight last September controversy triumphed with Tyson gaining a hotly disputed points victory from referee Terry O’Connor.
Maloney added McDermott was robbed on the night and this fight was ‘justice for John.’
