Magnificent 7 - The things we have learned...

After what can be described as a successful event, now we have taken it all in there are a number of things we have learned...

James Degale looks a bit special - I know it was only short, but in less than a round Degale showed that he may just be a special talent in waiting. He would in my opinion beat George Groves right now or indeed at any time in the future.

Fights are stopped too early by British referees - seems a bit churlish given the subject but surely someone like Carl Dilks deserved the chance to at least try and get into the fight?

Nice guys unfortunately do finish second - for that think of Enzo Macc, Matty Hall and big Sam Sexton.

Nathan Cleverly is for real - his performance on Saturday night was both excellent and entertaining. He remains Wales' great hope, and he has a bit of the Calzaghe devil in him which can only be a good thing.

Father and Son partnerships need an outsider sometimes - staying on the Cleverly theme, Saturday (despite the great performance) was a good illustration of why some argue a father and son together in the corner can be a bad thing.  Round three and you see Cleverly senior waving a towel round his head in an effort to get the crowd all whooping and hollering. At that point there were signs that Murat may be getting into the fight. What was needed at that point was a calm head, which brings me onto....

Dean Powell is a top cornerman - provided the wisdom in the Cleverly corner to go with the fervour and complimented things brilliantly. Despite the spurious tan Powell is becoming more and more of an asset in big fight corners.

Derek Chisora is better than we all thought - and fair play to him for that, also fair play to Sam Sexton for playing his part in a great fight proving heavyweights can still produce when we need them to.

Maybe Kell Brook is not as good as we all thought - laboured for me, but balancing that he has been out for a while and Jennings is of course no mug.

Frankie Gavin is class - nothing else to say.

Macklin felt the same as the fans - as ever with these things when you have been promised steak and you get a burger instead, the burger is sometimes harder to digest, plain English means he looked thoroughly disinterested which can be attributed to the Barker pull out. Interesting to see how the Macklin story develops from here.

Enzo Macc needs to quit - please give it up now, you have given everyone some great nights. We don't want to see you get hurt. A quick word on the ref in that fight, actually best not, don't think the site likes swear words.

Final thoughts - Great night, great fights and British boxing looks to be on the up and up.

That's the best lesson of all.
