Lindsay added to prime time Booth card

British featherweight champion Martin Lindsay has been added to promoter Frank Maloney’s world title card next month.

Nottingham’s Jason Booth heads the bill when he challenges Steve Moiltor for the IBF world super-bantamweight title at Rainton Meadows Arena, Houghton-le-Spring on Saturday September 11.

The tussle will be screened at peak viewing time by Sky Sports. The barnstorming brawl is the first of promoter Frank Maloney’s new deal with Sky Sports, the home of televised boxing. They will be screening the card from 8pm-10pm giving mass exposure to Booth (35-5) in the biggest fight of his life.

Maloney said: “The time of the fight means Jason will get huge mainstream exposure and undoubtedly the biggest TV audience of his career.

“I would imagine he would be in the ring at 9pm so it also means maximum exposure in Sunday morning newspapers.

“After the demons Jason has had to conquer, I cannot think of a fighters who deserves glory as much as Jason.”

Molitor (32-1) has won on all three previous visits to Britain with the victory over Nicky coming on points in a Commonwealth bantamweight title clash back in September 2002. His only career loss came in November 2008, when he lost in the fourth round of an IBF-WBA unification match against Celestino Caballero.

Belfast’s Lindsay, 28, will keep busy when he boxes an eight round non-title contest against a selected opponent on the undercard.

Maloney is hopeful Lindsay (16-0) could be a world title challenger in the next 12 months. He added: “Martin is closing in on a European title shot and I am certain that sometime next year he will be challenging for a world title in his hometown.

“Martin brings excitement to the ring and the more exposure he gets the more popular he will become.”

In the chief supporting contest London Matthew Marsh (13-2) will meet undefeated Scot Kris Hughes (12-0) for the vacant Commonwealth super-bantamweight crown. Marsh controversially lost on an 11th round cuts stoppage to Booth in February and will have one eye on the winner of the world title clash.
