John McDermott - "I'll let my fists do the talking."

John McDermott is looking forward to his rematch with Tyson Fury which doubles up as a vacant English title match and a final eliminator for the British title this Friday at Brentwood.

Their first fight ended in an uproar with Tyson getting the victory despite many believing John should have the verdict. Nine months on, John still has no doubts he won and is ready for action again having prepared with renowned trainer and fitness fanatic Jim McDonnell.

“Of course I won the fight. I am very fit. Preparation is going very well. I’m doing a lot of running and training hard, twice a day for six weeks, you know so everything is going well.”

John and Tyson are somewhat different outside the ring. Tyson likes to stir things up with his boastful comments while John prefers to let his fists do the talking as he explained.

“What it is right, some people go around and try to big themselves up. I know I can fight, obviously he is a good fighter. I’ll do my talking in there (in the ring) I know I’m ready and he can say whatever he wants.”

McDermott has not had the rub of the green recently. Before the Fury fiasco John was on the wrong end of two decisions against Danny Williams and like the first Tyson fight many thought he was the man who should have been wearing the belt at the end, but despite that thinks three judges as opposed to just the referee scoring (in English title matches) is better.

“They have changed the rules so I honestly believe now after the Danny Williams fights and the Tyson one all I’m asking for is a fair crack of the whip.”

Although John wouldn’t predict a stoppage he boldly added “I’m going to win, if it comes it comes (the stoppage), if it don’t it don’t."
